braeside golf club mens section results club champions ladies section results how do i join? useful information contact gallery insurance the committee past captains location members list (men) links fixtures/calendar how to submit results selsdon golf men's championship 2017 photos welcome to braeside golf club braeside golf club mens section ladies section useful information members list (men) links fixtures/calendar how to submit results selsdon golf men's championship 2017 photos latest tweets please read on, but in light of the news that - following lewisham council's disappointing closure of beckenham place park golf course - braeside golf club is now based at selsdon park, in south croydon. braeside golf club was established in 1947, at beckenham place park in the london borough of lewisham. the course is an 18-hole, 5,722 yard par 69 public course, on which more players have been introduced to golf than any other in london. for many years, the course featured in the guinness book of records as the 'most played public golf course in europe' the course meanders around beckenham place park enjoying fine views and affords a good test of golf as players attempt to keep to the tree-lined fairways. a stream crosses the course, coming into play strategically on 5 holes. at the centre of the course is the grade 2* listed beckenham place mansion where the pro shop, club areas, changing room and café/bar are located. the original course, the foxgrove golf club, was laid out as a nine-hole course. this was expanded to 18 holes after the acquisition of the park and mansion by the london county council in 1927. beckenham place park has been a public park since that time. in recent years the park and mansion have suffered from a lack of maintenance by lewisham council. campaigning, headed by braeside golf club and the friends of beckenham place park, had secured the future of the 18-hole course (the council had proposed a reduction to 9 holes) and there had been a notable improvement in the condition of the course since 2008. more recently however, we once again find ourselves campaigning against the closure of the course. our secretary has recently written the following update to our campaign: lewisham council have set up a dedicated e-mail address for comments on their plans for the park. please use it!
